Bill Smith, CPA
Bill manages the day-to-day activities of the firm, responsible for the general tax, accounting, and payroll services. Bill spent half of his career at a Big Four accounting firm, but also worked at a regional accounting firm and was a controller at one of the Big Three auto manufacturers. He has experience in many different industries (financial services, manufacturing, not-for-profit, professional services, real estate, retail, etc.) with companies ranging in size from large, international public corporations to small, mom & pop privately held companies. Bill specializes in technical accounting and tax research and consulting.
Bill has been a certified public accountant for 20 years and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Central Michigan University.
Nawal Fakhouri, CPA
Nawal founded the firm in 1993, starting with one client. Her hard work, dedication, expertise and commitment to client relationships spanning three decades has grown the practice to what it is today. Nawal specializes in accounting and income taxes for closely-held businesses covering a wide range of industries. Most recently, she has been specializing in the medical industry and has developed a full-service offering (accounting, tax, payroll, legal, medical billing and coding) for many doctors and medical practices.
Nawal has been a certified public accountant for over 30 years and is a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA). She holds a Bachelor of Science from Madonna University and a Masters in Tax from Walsh College.
Jack Crawford
Individual Income Tax
Jack specializes in tax planning, research and preparation for individuals. He is also an attorney and specializes in tax and business planning. Jack has been providing tax and legal services for over 40 years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Michigan State University and a Juris Doctor Law Degree from The Detroit College of Law. He was admitted to the Bar in 1974 and has been with our firm for 19 years.
Diane Kirksey
Senior Payroll Specialist
Diane is our rock, bringing a new meaning to dedication and hard work. She came to us with 30 years’ experience in everything accounting, from bank reconciliations and payroll to financial statements and corporate tax returns. Diane currently specializes in all-things payroll and provides a full-service payroll function: custom time sheets, paychecks, payroll tax filing, workers compensation audits, W-2 and year-end preparation, etc. She has been our Senior Payroll Specialist for nearly 10 years, and has been with the firm for more than 15 years.
David Kirvan
Bookkeeping and Payroll
David is our Swiss Army knife. His primary responsibility is bookkeeping for clients, usually at their offices. He also supports our QuickBooks Online clients. He is our in-house IT/HR manager, but also assists with payroll, tax return preparation, Form 1099 preparation, researching software for clients, and is our inhouse notary public. He is also active in numerous local networking organizations and has over 900 LinkedIn connections. David has been with the firm for more than 20 years. Prior to joining the firm, he had extensive experience in the retail and payments industries. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Michigan State University.
Kathy Haddad
Bookkeeper
Kathy prepares financial statements by downloading banking activity and recording journal entries. She is also responsible for Michigan sales and use tax (monthly and annually) and personal property tax preparation and filing. Kathy assists in payroll activities and backs up Norma on the phones. She has been with the firm for more than 20 years.
Norma Kirvan
Office Manager
Norma is the MVP of the office and is likely the first person you will see or talk to when you come in or call. Her services are endless, and she will be your guide in joining the Fakhouri, Smith family. Norma is also responsible for billing, collections and other client management activities. Norma has been with the firm for more than 20 years and enjoys every minute she spends helping our clients.
